Meet our Founder Nicole Herrera

What have been the most challenging and rewarding aspects of building your own cosmetics brand?

I think my biggest challenge was overcoming self doubt. It was difficult for me to fully believe in myself because I knew that I had to work twice as hard to put my brand out there. I didn't come from a wealthy family, I didn't have a strong social platform or have industry connections, so I knew that this was a project I'd have to build from the ground up with no hand outs.

There's a saying that goes "It's not about what you know, but who you know" and I couldn't disagree more. The most rewarding part of all of this was that I can actually say I worked endlessly for what Nude has become. I didn't know anyone. I built those relationships from scratch, so when I saw my lashes make it on the face of Cardi B and other high profile celebrities, I'm proud to say I did that. It's the most rewarding part of it all.

What is your favorite lash style to wear?

Out of all 5 styles, Queen has to be my go-to. Every style has something different to offer, and although I love them all, Queen makes my eye shape stand out more, and gives the perfect amount of length and volume that I love.

What inspired you to start your own eyelash line?

I always told myself that by the time I turned 25, I wanted to own my business but never knew what type of business it may be. After years of saving and thinking, I knew that the beauty industry was the direction I wanted to go in. At the time, I never heard of anyone owning their own lash line and since I wear them everyday, I figured I'd invest in my own line.

Why did you choose the name Nude Cosmetics?

I knew I didn't want to have my name "Nicole" or "Nikki" in my business name so I took my time thinking about something that represents me. One night, I was laying down in bed after a long day of work and school, and the name Nude just popped in my head.

Nude to me means more than just naked, but it means being at your most pure and natural state. It means confidence and power. Everyone has their own nude and that's what makes everyone so unique, but Nude Cosmetics is made for everyone regardless of your race, gender, and religious beliefs. I want everyone to feel at their most natural state when wearing my products. I want Nude Cosmetics to bring out the confidence of my customers.

Who do you imagine wearing your lashes?

I've learned along the way that the possibilities are endless so I've always envisioned my lashes making it on the face of Beyoncé. I know it sounds like a crazy and wild fantasy of mine, but I've managed to get it on one of the most popular artists in the world already, why stop there?

What's next for Nude Cosmetics?

After over a year of success for my brand, I wanted to take it to the next level. When it comes to business, you have to see what's popular and in high demand before making your next move. I gave myself time to think about it, and knew that my next step was to offer a service. I love seeing pictures of my customers when they wear my products, but wanted to be more involved with the experience so I get to do just that when I'm doing their lash extensions. It also challenged me to break out of my comfort zone and learn something new. I'm not only growing as brand, but I'm growing as a person as well which is so exciting.
